3 Step Cleaning Process For Vinyl Or Aluminum Mini Blinds

If you have classic mini blinds in your home, the ones that are white and contain number small white blind pieces that can be opened or closed using a turning device, here is a three step process for keeping your mini blinds clean.

#1 Deep Cleaning

If you have not cleaned your blinds in a long time, there is not only going to be dust on them, but also a grease residue that tends to build up over time. For this type of dirt and grime level, you are going to want to start with a deep cleaning for the blinds.

The best way to deep clean the blinds is to fill up a bathtub with a couple of inches of water and some dish soap that is designed to cut through grease and grime. Then, put your blinds in the bathtub, laying them down vertically. You should only put one or two sets of blinds in the tub at a time so they don't get caught up on one another.

After you let the blinds soak for a few minutes, use a sponge or even a mop to go over the slats on the blinds, you are going to want to go over both sides, the front and back, to effectively clean them.

Then, rinse the blinds off and dry them with a towel. You can put them out in the sun to dry if it is nice outside, or hang them up to dry. If you hang them up to dry, put a towel under the blinds to catch any water that drips off.

#2 Make It Last

You can make your deep cleaning job last longer by treating the blinds after you have deep cleaned them. Once the blinds are dry, run a fabric softener over them. The residue from the fabric softener will help keep dust away from your blinds. If you don't want to use fabric softeners, you can also treat them with a solution of water and lemon oil, which will also have a similar repealing effect.

This will help keep the dust off your blinds and keep them clean for a longer period of time.

#3 Maintenance

If you don't want to have to pull your blinds off once a year to deep clean them, you need to make sure that you maintenance clean them. Once a week, when you are cleaning your house, vacuum your blinds or dust them with a towel or duster. Doing this once a week will help keep the dust off of them and ensure that they don't get so dirty that you need to scrub them in your tub.
