Had A Flood In Your Home? How Water Is Extracted To Start The Drying Process

If you had a flood in your home, you need to get the water out fast before it causes a lot of damage. The best way to do this is to hire a water extraction company to remove all standing water from the property. Keep reading to learn about how this works.

Find Problem and Stop Leak

The first thing the contractor will do is find the source of the leak and then stop it to prevent any further flooding in the home. They use moisture sensors and meters to help them determine where water is coming from and where the leak is located. These tools also show how much moisture there is in the area so they can determine how much work it is going to take to get your home back to normal again. The areas checked include walls, flooring, ceiling, and more.

Find Safety Hazards

The next step is to make sure there are no safety hazards in the area. This includes furniture that is not secure and anything electrical such as electrical outlets. If there are electrical outlets in the room, the electricity will be turned off before they proceed with the process.

Extract Water and Dry

The contractor will use a specially designed machine to extract water from the area. This machine is a powerful vacuum that can suck water from the area quickly. It has a container that has to be emptied periodically as it fills with water. Once the water is extracted, industrial fans are set up in the area to finish drying things out. The fans circulate air over the flooring and other surfaces. The fans will run for a few days in order to get everything dry.

Disinfect and Dehumidify

Mold and mildew can start growing quickly where there is moisture. Because of this, the area must be disinfected. The extraction team will remove all mold spores and any other types of bacteria that may grow. Along with disinfection, they will also use a sanitization method. A dehumidifier is set up to remove any moisture that may remain in your home. Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air. This moisture is placed in a container that is attached to the dehumidifier. This container should be emptied when it becomes full.

Once all the water is extracted and the rest of the process is finished, you will then need to start making repairs to your home. You should contact your insurance company, as this type of damage may be covered.
